A Message from our President

2020 Year End CGS President’s Message

I want to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year!

This past year is one that will stand out in our memories forever. Some have suffered great loss, whether by losing a loved one or employment or a business. My heart goes out to you, and I encourage you to take this new year as a point to start over, to reach out to others for support for yourself, and for you to support others who are in need.

Use this experience to think about what we have learned or what we should have learned. I believe I have realized that family is more important than “things.” I have found that my faith in God has grown stronger. I have spent more time on relationships than I had before. And I found with fewer places to go and do, I have had more opportunity to create and express myself.

I’m not much for New Year’s resolutions, but I am for setting goals for myself. Think about how you would like to improve and determine to do so. Write your ideas down and the steps it takes to get there. Create some wonderful gourd art in this new year and enter your creations in our CGS gourd competitions. Volunteer to help out in your local gourd patch or if you aren’t a member of a patch, find out where the closest one is located and start to attend. It’s the best way to learn from others and share ideas.

I have been your CGS president since 2015, and it’s time for me to move on. I’m not leaving the CGS board; I will remain on the board as treasurer and stay very active in CGS events. My career was a “bean counter,” so it’s right up my alley, so to speak.

I’m looking forward to serving CGS in another capacity.

A big thank you to all who pitched in and volunteered many hours to make this organization so successful. California Gourd Society is what it is because of you!

My wishes for you in this new year are that you will remain safe and healthy and accomplish great things in 2021.

Your president,

Olive Moore
